I often have people ask if I have a wedding that has been my favorite in the past 9 years of photographing weddings. Although they are all unique and wonderful, there are indeed a few that stand out in my mind and warm my heart. In fact, thinking back to Katie and Greg’s wedding day just about brings me to tears as I reminisce though the moments of their celebration.
Meeting them started simple with a local tea shop and silly stories of their life together. Katie is a graphic designer and Greg an illustrator. Their creativity in approaching their wedding day did not disappoint as they spoke of their DIY decor. It was more than just the things they spot of for their wedding day that really made them stand out. They had carefully considered all they hold dear and wanted to make sure they each had a wonderful experience.
It was true that very day. Those in attendance truly deeply love Katie and Greg with an appreciation I feel is so very rare to find. It just seemed to be an overflow and reflection of the love they hold for one another. Dark clouds cluttered the skies, but there was so much overwhelming joy that no one seemed to notice or care. The ceremony began and the tears began to flow. As Greg started to say his vows, he pulled out a little sheet of paper. On it was a doodle Katie made during their first few months together. It was one of the two of them together. As he handed the doodle to Katie, he explained how he had discovered it one afternoon on his desk and kept it in his wallet ever since because he knew. He knew that she was the one.
After Katie and Greg sealed their love with a kiss it was on to the party. Sparkly lights lined the gymnasium wall as guest danced their hardest throughout the night. Greg’s illustrations could be seen throughout the decor from the cake topper to the photo booth backdrop. Words seem to fill the air in agreeance that this moment was made just for the duo! It was truly a night to remember!
