With Valentine’s day fading off into memory, I have no doubt there are many of you that are now sporting some new jewelry, and perhaps, beginning the process of planning your very own wedding day, including selecting your wedding dress. Albeit a bit stressful, planning a wedding can bring long-awaited dreams finally to reality.
I think most young women dream about their wedding gown long before there is a need for a dress. Or, if you’re anything like me, you might not have thought about it much until you had the ring on your finger. Like you just couldn’t let yourself get too excited until it was a reality. Wedding dress shopping is made out to be a magical experience in both social media and Hollywood, but I too often hear it wasn’t quite so. In fact, I actually left a bridal shop in tears after discovering my dream dress but walked away empty-handed. A story for another day, but my hope for you is that you can avoid any stress and set yourself up for having the best experience possible while you search for your dream dress!
Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down with the owner of Solutions Bridal Designer House, Erica Brilliant, and got to pick her brain on how to create a great experience finding your wedding dress. What I love about the Solutions Bridal space is the smiling faces greeting you when you first walk in. There has never been a time that I have entered their shop without feeling both warmly greeted and welcomed into their space. In fact, their excitement and joy make it truly difficult to leave and return back to reality! Let’s jump right into those perfect tips for selecting your wedding dress!
When is the best time to start looking for your wedding dress?
It’s honestly never too early. The main thing to consider – what is your priority? Some prefer to get their wedding dress after the venue is selected. The venue then sets in motion the style for the decor and attire for both the couple and the wedding party. Others prefer to find their dress first. The dress then sets the mood for the remainder of the wedding day style.
How long does it take to receive your dress? How long can alterations take?
It can take up to 8 months for a dress to be it to you by the designer. Alterations can take anywhere from 6 – 8 weeks.
Who should I bring with me to try on dresses?
The most supportive people you know. People who want you to have what makes you happy. They are there to make sure your opinion won’t get lost. These individuals are here to bring out the best version of yourself. Even if it’s a large group of 12 people, it’s completely fine as long as they are there for you! We too are a team that will advocate for the bride as best we can.
Any other tips for prepping for the appointment?
Come with an open mind, especially if you haven’t tried on any wedding dress before. Be open to trusting the experts. We have seen many different body types and we know what will look incredible on you. We are intentional about pulling dresses that match your personality and wedding day style. You may just end up selecting a style you never considered before!
What about your job brings you the most joy?
I love seeing family dynamics – the emotion of celebrating with a family – we truly all cry! If seeing a father in tears doesn’t bring you to tears…

What is your why? Why do you do what you do?
My kids – 4yr and 6-year-old rambunctious boys. I want them to grow up and know that their mom is a force and a hard worker. My for my husband too. I just want them to all be proud of me
